FRAPpuccino: Fault-detection through Runtime Analysis of Provenance
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present FRAPpuccino (or FRAP), a provenancebased fault detection mechanism for Platform as a Service (PaaS) users, who run many instances of an application on a large cluster of machines. FRAP models, records, and analyzes the behavior of an application and its impact on the system as a directed acyclic provenance graph. It assumes that most instances behave normally and uses their behavior to construct a model of legitimate behavior. Given a model of legitimate behavior, FRAP uses a dynamic sliding window algorithm to compare a new instance’s execution to that of the model. Any instance that does not conform to the model is identified as an anomaly. We present the FRAP prototype and experimental results showing that it can accurately detect application anomalies.

Secure Time-Aware Provenance For Distributed Systems
Operators of distributed systems often find themselves needing to answer forensic questions, to perform a variety of managerial tasks including fault detection, system debugging, accountability enforcement, and attack analysis. In this dissertation, we present Secure Time-Aware Provenance (STAP), a novel approach that provides the fundamental functionality required to answer such forensic quest...
متن کاملACCESSPROV: Tracking the Provenance of Access Control Decisions
Access control protects security-sensitive operations from access by unauthorized subjects. Unfortunately, access control mechanisms are implemented manually in practice, which can lead to exploitable errors. Prior work aims to find such errors through static analysis, but the correctness of access control enforcement depends on runtime factors, such as the access control policies enforced and ...
متن کاملFault detection, classification and location methodology for solar microgrids using current injection, online phaselet transform, mathematical morphology filter and signal energy analysis
In this paper, a new method for detection and fault location and classification in MTDC solar microgrid is presented. Some issues such as expanding renewable energy sources and DC loads and efforts to increase power quality and reduce the environmental impact of electricity generation have led to the expansion of solar networks. Identifying the types and locations of faults is important to ensu...
متن کاملActive-Threaded Algorithms for Provenance Cognition in the Cloud preserving Low Overhead and Fault Tolerance
Provenance is the derivation history of information about the origin of data and processes. For a highly dynamic system such as the cloud, provenance must be effectively detected to be used as proves to ensure accountability during digital forensic investigations. This paper proposes active-threaded provenance cognition algorithms that ensure effective and high speed detection of provenance inf...
متن کاملImpact of linear dimensionality reduction methods on the performance of anomaly detection algorithms in hyperspectral images
Anomaly Detection (AD) has recently become an important application of hyperspectral images analysis. The goal of these algorithms is to find the objects in the image scene which are anomalous in comparison to their surrounding background. One way to improve the performance and runtime of these algorithms is to use Dimensionality Reduction (DR) techniques. This paper evaluates the effect of thr...
